In 2000, the Sydney Olympics deliberately and with some fanfare set out to be the greenest Olympics yet - a fitting empahgasis for the new millenium.
Now that South East Queensland is the front runner for the 2032 bid, a new question comes into focus: will these Olympics be greener yet - or will the environment be sidelined, even as the global environmental crisis deepens?
There's no shortage of environmental issues that urgently need attention in this part of Australia - and plenty of new infrastructure to be built to lay the foundations for a more sustainable of life in the future.
