Toowoomba Region Landcare (TRL)

Born out of a community desire for more shade and biodiversity in our urban spaces, TRL operates as an active, hands-on project group proudly auspiced by the Darling Downs Environment Council (DDEC).

We are currently transitioning into an exciting new phase of growth. Here is a snapshot of exactly what we are working on right now and how you can get involved.

What We Are Doing Right Now 

1. Formalising Our Partnership with Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC)
To scale up our impact without hitting regulatory roadblocks, we are currently working behind the scenes to finalise a formal long-term partnership agreement with TRC.

The Council is already backing us with non-monetary asset support. This formal agreement will ensure our volunteer-led planting efforts perfectly align with local compliance, risk management, and regional greening strategies.

2. Cleaning Up Gowrie Creek

While the long-term environmental restoration frameworks for Gowrie Creek are being negotiated, we aren’t just sitting on our hands. We are building immediate grassroots momentum and showing our care for local waterways through highly visible community rubbish clean-up days along Gowrie Creek. It’s amazing what a dedicated group of volunteers can pull out of a creek bed in a single morning!

3. Planning Seasonal Planting Events (Spring, Summer, & Autumn)

We are actively mapping out our seasonal planting calendar across a list of council-approved regional parks and urban bushland corridors.

Our focus is on planting native, climate-resilient species that will withstand the heat and achieve our strict goal of a 70% tree survival rate over two years.

• Spring: Laying the foundations as the weather warms.
• Summer: Targeted planting and intensive watering trailer deployment.
• Autumn: Maximising growth during the prime planting window.
