Volunteer for Our Environment
A safe climate and flourishing environment benefit everyone. Your involvement can make a real difference in our community.
Our History
The Darling Downs Environmental Council (DDEC) was formed in 2014 by volunteers who wanted to preserve and protect our environment. Volunteers continue to be critical to our success and the success of our member groups. Together, we have achieved meaningful change in our region, including:
- Campaigning against the impacts of coal seam gas on prime agricultural land
- Working to prevent the destruction of Acland from coal mining
- Saving Redwood Forest from mountain bike tracks
- Advocating for the protection of mature trees affected by property developments
- Holding local candidate forums during elections
- Advocating for climate adaptation measures to local government
- Raising awareness about the need to protect the Deongwar State Forest
Volunteers have always been at the heart of DDEC, and we continue to need your help.
“Volunteering with DDEC has provided me with an amazing opportunity as a young person to get involved in the community through local environmental campaigns such as Keep Toowoomba Cool, tree plantings, the Community for Creatures event, and the Hut opening. The support at DDEC is also amazing. I love the email and text reminders so that I can stay up to date with current information and upcoming meetings.”
